A root canal is a lot less scary than the name suggests: it’s when the nerve of a tooth is affected beyond repair. We remove the nerve, clean and shape the canal spaces inside the tooth and then fill it back up to prevent any more bacteria from getting in; this allows the tooth to stay and function as normal.
What is a dental filling?
A filling is simply the material which the dentist places in the ‘tooth’ to fill a gap that has been created by decay or a chipped tooth in order to return it to its normal shape.
A guide to toothache?
A toothache can take many forms and vary from an occasional mild discomfort to a severe pain that disturbs your sleep- this is one of those times where taking painkillers and hoping it will simply go away is not advised. By all means take something for the pain, but schedule a visit with us (or another dentist) to get the issue checked out. Delaying can easily lead to more pain, and more extensive and expensive treatments.
